They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. First of all, signs follow believers not believers follow signs. Here’s my issue with the whole handling snakes / serpents thing these people are doing. 1. If it was literally us going out and finding snakes, why are they getting them particular kind of snakes, why do they get to pick what kind of snakes? Just get some black snakes and handle those, if that sort of a thing makes somebody a believer. Why they pick the kind of snake that poisonous. 2. Second, so you got to go on a snake hunt so you can bring them in the house of God to prove you’re a believer. I find that kind of ridiculous. To me Acts 28 shows us an example of a believer not being harmed by a snake, which wasn’t him taking up a serpent intentional but was bit by accident but no harm came to the son of God. Acts 28:1-5 1. And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita. 2. And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold. 3. And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand. 4. And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live. 5. And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm. 6. Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god. The Holy Ghost can protect from this kind of a thing. Also, about the drinking anything deadly, it’s the same issue, you never know when someone has tried to poison you or you drank something that was harmful and God protected you from it. That’s completely different than me or you going out and drinking strychnine then telling God He has to protect me to prove I’m a believer. Again that’s a bit ridiculous to me, plus the Bible says, “thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.” I will close with this, if I was bitten by a poisonous snake or I did happen to drink anything deadly I fully believe God almighty can protect, these signs do follow believer’s, but I don’t see me forcing the sign to happen, I find that a bit radical and just a religious spirit. To me it doesn’t bring a person closer to God it only looks cultish.

From the scenery in the video, apparently there have been some changes. Well, it is like everything else, everything changes sometimes not in a positive direction. Had a Koppers Coke plant in my hometown in the Midwest. They made the briquets, so on certain days when the wind was going to the northwest, that was the only day a relative (who lived with the house's backyard facing the plant) could wash her family's clothing. Otherwise the pollution from the manufacturing process would dirty all the clothes freshly laundered, then hung on the clotheslines outside. This was decades before dryers in homes. In the 1930s. I suspect anyone living on the few streets adjacent to the rr lines all the homeowners had to deal with that issue. Koppers Coke business is no longer there. Closed and building torn down easily some 40 years ago. There is an industrial park there now.

My dad worked for Red Jacket Coal Co from 1939 to 1956 and used to go the mine at Keen Mt...don't know the reason. We lived in a nice two story house. Great place to grow up.

You definitely should’ve went all the way through! You were on the Sneedville side. When you get to the Claiborne County side the road is a lot rougher and mostly gravel. I have a lot of family that live there. Just buried my granny there in the Eagle Cemetery last Saturday. I was following the hurst and at times I couldn’t see it or my aunt behind me because of the dust!

Lived bout 3 miles outside of town limits for 32 years its changed so much drugs has tore thru these small towns and left its mark with no end, never thought id see it like it now. nothing could change the childhood i had there priceless

I went to Clinch Valley. Had a lot of fun there, and found the experience to be very nice. However, to become a comic book artist and illustrator, I had to move to New Jersey to get a proper art education at the Joe Kubert School of Art. I did learn a lot at CVC (as we called it), and I'm very thankful for my experiences there. Its a lovely campus--even "Cardiac Hill" and those steps leading up said hill from the cafeteria! lol. I also love the town of Wise. Having been born in Clintwood, Wise is naturally very familiar to me. My old stompin' grounds, as they say. I'm glad to see you both doing videos again! They're a real treat for me, as I haven't been home in many years.

The connection between Dukes of Hazzard and Hazard Ky is the creator of the show was from Lennoxburg Ky. He grew up around moonshiner and wrote/directed the Movie Moonrunners. When asked to create a show based off Moonrunners he created Dukes of Hazzard. He got the fictional town name from a gym bag of someone who was from Hazard Ky. He added the second z and boom you got Hazzard County. The Dukes cast came to Hazard Ky in 1981 for the Black Gold festival. A est of 100,000 people showed up. They got the keys to Hazard and were made Ky Col. James Best ( Sheriff Rosco)met his brother he hadn't seen since he was adopted. Been to Hazard a few time. A truly lovely place with great people.

Shane & Melody, enjoyed seeing Wise after all these years. Have y'all ever done a video in Iager, West Virginia (pronounced Yeager)?? Not sure if youre aware, but when O. Winston Link was photographing the last of Norfolk & Western Steam locomotives in the late 50's, one of his famous pictures was taken as the N&W steam loco was passing the old Drive-in Theater in Iager. The tracks (still in use) and the old theater (not in use) are still there. Its a small, but quaint area. Go, if youve never gone. I was last down there in the late 90's.

There used to be a restaurant across 23 from Reno’s that had lots of Civil War artifacts on display and great food. I don’t recall the name. I don’t think it’s open anymore.

Hey guys, I’m a Yankee from rural northern Appalachia, and I absolutely love your channel! I grew up in both Pennsylvania and Vermont. You should consider checking out some of the northern states-you might be surprised. PA doesn’t have the bigger mountains like you’d find in VA or NC, but the culture is very much Appalachian and the state is filled with small mountain towns. Appalachia in New England has a different kind of Appalachian culture, but it’s gorgeous and they have some of the highest mountains outside the smokies and Shenandoah. I’d love to see you guys explore some of these areas. Cmon up in the winter and we’ll throw ya on a snowmobile!
